ABOUT WINERY
Maison Alex Gambal back

Owing to his passion for Burgundy, Alex Gambal left the world of real estate to explore this fascinating region with all its complexity. After attending the viticultural school in Beaune, he created Maison Alex Gambal in 1997 with the goal to create hand-crafted wines in the old-world fashion, each expressing character, terroir and purity. In 2011 he acquired vines in the Grand-Cru Vineyard Batard-Montrachet, becoming the first non Frenchman in history to purchase vines in this storied area. Maison Alex Gambal now produces 60,000 bottles per year which can be found on tables in twenty countries.

The winemaking is practical and based on centuries-old Burgundian traditions. The grapes are all hand-harvested and fermented on naturally occuring yeasts. Whites are fermented in barrel, aged on their lees for 10-16 months, only racked once before being bottled - lightly fined and unfiltered. The reds are hand harvested, de-stemmed, but not crushed and cold-macerated for 5-8 days. Fermentation in steel is followed by malolactic fermentation in barrel and maturation for 10-16 months. The wines are not fined or filtered. All fining and racking is done according to optimum phases of the moon and planets.

90 points, Wine Enthusiast, Sept 2011

"This is creamy, providing a textural backdrop for the nutmeg, vanilla, clove and apple flavours. ...

Alex Gambal Puligny-Montrachet 2010

"This has proven itself to be a consistently fine performer for its level and 2010 will not be an exception to this rule of excellence as there is lovely complexity to the acacia blossom, apple and pear suffused nose that is trimmed in background hints of wood toast. There is good richness to the...

Alex Gambal Meursault “Clos du Cromin” 2010

"A fresh and classic Meursault nose features notes of hazelnut, white peach and pear with subtle exotic fruit aromas that are followed by rich, generous and plump medium-bodied flavours that possess plenty of mouth coating dry extract. This relatively forward effort is delicious if not especially...

Alex Gambal Bourgogne Chardonnay 2010
