Vietti

Piedmont

Four generations of the Vietti family have made great wines in the tiny medieval town of Castiglione Falletto in the centre of the Barolo area. All fruit is estate grown and new parcels of prized land are being acquired. Production of each of their wines is extremely limited to between 150 and 950 cases. These are truly hand-crafted wines. Vietti has an international following.

"Vietti is one of the most historic properties in piedmont. The estate is best known for its top-flight barolos, yet in recent years I have been equally impressed with their entry-level wines. These are among the finest wines being made anywhere in Italy." Robert Parker, August 2008

Barbera d'AlbaBarbera d'Alba 2006 "Tre Vigne"
The Barbera grapes are selected from three vineyard sites located in Monforte, Barolo and Castiglione Falletto with 4,300 vines by hectare. The vineyards are just over 35 years old. The must is kept in stainless steel tanks for 7 days at 26C for the alcoholic fermentation, then moved into 33 hl casks at the beginning of the malolactic fermentation for 8 months. The wine is then transferred into large stainless steel tanks to homogenize the wine, followed by two transfers into stainless steel tanks before bottling without filtration.

"It is made in a soft, round style that is typical of the wines of Alba. The wine offers up layers of super-ripe dark fruit, leather, spices, smoke and earthiness with awesome textural depth and richness. This pure, generous Barbera should continue to drink well for several years."

Dolcetto d'AlbaDolcetto d'Alba 2007 "Tre Vigne"
These Dolcetto grapes are selected from three vineyard sites: Monforte, Novello and Castiglione vineyards, which are almost 25-30 years old. "When young, as Dolcetto d'Alba is preferred, it has a deep mulberry colour and a hint of newly fermenting grapes on the nose with rich but mellow fruit flavours of almost chocolate-like sweetness offset by a mouth tingling bitter undertone..." Burton Anderson. Round, full, velvety, warm in the mouth, slightly almond on the finish, with rich fruit flavours. This wine is ideal with all robust foods.

Barolo 2004 "Lazzarito"
"Plum, rose and hints of meat follow through to a full body, with firm, slightly dusty, chewy tannins. This is very structured. Needs lots of time. Muscular for this wine. Best after 2013."
91 Wine Spectator, April 2008

Barbaresco 2004 "Masseria"
"The 2004 Barbaresco Masseria is an incredibly nuanced and elegant wine. It reveals outstanding purity in its focused, detailed notes of crushed flowers, spices and sweet ripe red fruit, with an engaging inner sweetness that carries through to the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2019."
