The Blanck estate consists of numerous plots of vines spread over six villages. This diversity means the wines benefit from the special attributes of each area. Blanck's vineyards are concentrated in classic sites around Kientzheim. They have five Grands Crus: Furstentum, Schlossberg, Mambourg, Sommerberg, and Wineck-Schlossberg. Additionally they cultivate four important Crus or lieu-dits: Altenbourg, Patergarten, Grafreben, and Rosenbourg. Blanck's wines achieve the best expression of different types of soil - richness from limestone, weight, and strength from clay, harmony from magnesium, and bouquet, finesse, and power from flint. Each grape variety and each vineyard is vinified separately accounting for the distinct flavours of each. To quote Clive Coates in The Vine "This property now belongs in the super league." |
