Nino Franco

Valdobbiadene, Veneto

The Nino Franco winery was established 70 years ago and is located inland from Venice in the hills on the outskirts of the town of Valdobbiadene. Microclimates vary according to the sharp inclines of the vineyard, and Prosecco assumes delicate, dry, crisp qualities. Primo Franco, the third-generation owner of Nino Franco, has modernized his winery and focuses his attention on acquiring established prime vineyards. He is also an ambassador for Prosecco and has an active role in governing the DOC.

"Primo's wines are his own, first and foremost, in a style that exalts the terroir and the grape without masking the producer's own hand, which is evident in the ripe fruit aromas of every single bottle."
Gambero Rosso 2010

ProseccoProsecco di Valdobbiadene Brut NV
Tank fermentation or charmat lungo is the fermentation method used for the production of all Prosecco. However, after fermentation Primo extends the lees contact to add complexity and creaminess. Nino Franco Prosecco is pale straw in colour and its small fine bubbles are a further indication of the quality of the wine. The nose is delicate with floral and anise aromas and the palate follows this theme adding apple and a touch of almond. Although charming as an aperitif, it is a highly versatile wine that will work well with a wide variety of lighter foods.

Robert Parker comments "Nino Franco's non-vintage sparkling Prosecco di Valdobbiadene is unquestionably the world's finest value in a high quality Champagne look-alike. It is a light to medium-weight dry, refreshing, clean sparkling wine. Terrific value."

"Very pale straw (appearance). Minerally pear, green apple (on the nose). Taste: light-bodied, dry, refreshing acidity, minerally, lime and green apple flavours."

"Primo Franco" Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Brut 2010
To contrast the dry Prosecco Brut NV, the "Primo Franco" is a slightly sweet wine with a creamy mouthfeel and very fine persistent mousse. It is elegant and fruity, displaying a rather floral nose, with peach and tangerine on the palate. A lovely apertif, as a wine for brunch or pair this with thin crust white pizzas or mildly spiced Asian dishes.

FaiveNino Franco Faive Rosé Brut 2010
The idea for Faive began taking shape after Nino began talking of his desire to produce a sparkling rosé with friend, and red grape grower, Brandino Brandolini. After some experimentation, Nino found that a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot gave him the appearance and flavours he was looking for. The pale, salmony pink colour comes from cold contact of the grape skins with the must prior to fermentation. Look for cranberry notes on the palate with light creaminess from the lees contact giving it an attractive, round mouthfeel.

"Faive" comes from the Venetian dialect and refers to the small gilded red sparks that rise out of a fire and which are lightly and freely carried into the sky by the wind.
