Neagles Rock

Clare Valley, South Australia

Neagles Rock was established in 1997 by Steve Wiblin and Jane Willson. With the acquisition 20 acres of vineyard, Neagles Rock has quickly established itself as a leading winery in the Clare Valley. James Halliday rates Neagles Rock as a "Four Star" winery for five years running, which equates to an 'outstanding winery capable of producing wines of the highest calibre'.

Clare Valley is situated approximately 120 kilometers north-east of Adelaide in the Mount Lofty Range and has predominantly iron-rich soils over limestone subsoils. The climate is continental, with cold winters and dry, hot summers. Riesling is the dominant grape here, but Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, and blends of the two are the workhorse wines of the region. These cool climate Cabernets and Shiraz attain an elegant structure, with abundant fruit character and fine minerality in the midpalate.

Neagles CabCabernet Sauvignon 2009
As is expected from good Clare Cabernet, the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is deep and dark in colour with a lifted violet and herbal nose. The palate is rich, full and complex with blackcurrant, licorice, mocha, an herbal mintiness and subtle fruit cake characters. The finish is long and satisfying but very tight and refined.

It is drinking well now, but this lovely Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon will improve over time, and can be cellared for 8 to 9 years.

ShirazShiraz 2009
Clare Valley Shiraz doesn't need to prove itself. What you get here is a wonderful potpourri of concentrated spice and generous blackberry characters with fruit intensity that assures excellent cellaring potential.

This wine, sourced from the 'Misery', 'Duncans' and 'Home' block vineyards, has rich purple hues and displays classic flavours of white pepper and vanillin oak. A palate dominated by rich shiraz fruit and gripping tannins is made for your drinking pleasure. Enjoy!

"Inky black fruit with lashings of toasty oak, and attractive floral highlights are all evident on the bouquet; the palate is dense and chewy on entry, yet lightens with fresh acidity at the finish."
