| McLaren Ridge McLaren Vale |
Shiraz 2005McLaren Ridge is a panoramic and secluded vineyard property located in the heart of the McLaren Vale wine region and this is the very first release under the McLaren Ridge label. 100% Shiraz from the vineyard on the elevated McLaren Ridge in the heart of the district, and it's totally McLaren Vale in character. A decade ago, they planted Shiraz alongside the 50 year-old Grenache vines on their property and they were always intended to be much more than just decoration to accompany the luxury accommodation... or for the Alpacas to get in and graze on! Enlisting the help of Nigel Rayner and Brian Light, people who really understand the soil, vines and grapes, made sure the eventual wine was the real thing. There's no mistaking where McLaren Ridge Shiraz comes from. It is warm, hospitable and juicy, with smells of dark chocolate and cherry, pepper, earth and leather. There's lots of texture and flavour and it's all held in shape by an even, firm structure and lively finish. |
| "Heather and Peter Oliver have just released their first wine, a Shiraz, with the help of Nigel Rayner, Brian Light and David Ridge. Get some before they even have a cellar door and before anyone finds out just how good it is for its asking price. Planted a decade ago the vines finally produce fruit that just couldn't be ignored, expressing the McLaren Vale terroir to the fullest with 'Cherry Ripe' forward aromas of cherries, chocolate and earthy, peppery flavours with tight tannins and a long and lively finish.
