Domaine Masson-Blondelet

Pouilly Fumé, Loire Valley

Domaine Masson-Blondelet is run by Jean-Michel Masson, his wife Michelle (née Blondelet) and their children Pierre-François and Melanie. The Domaine is 18 hectares in size, which are planted on the best sites in the heart of the appellation. The Domaine's vineyards, which are on South and South-East facing slopes, enjoy a micro-climate caused by the river Loire which protects them from extreme variations in temperature.

M.W. Clive Coates rates Domaine Masson-Blondelet as "one of the best Pouilly Domaines."

Villa PaulusPouilly Fumé 2009 "Villa Paulus"
Villa Paulus is a particularly interesting clos since the soil is kimmeridgian clay which is usually associated with Chablis. This rich marley clay combined with marine fossils gives enhanced extract, body, and richness. Aromatically, this wine is pure Upper Loire Sauvignon. As the wine hits the palate there is an explosion of grapefruit and lime, yet underpinning this is a mineral complexity (suggestion of gunflint) that differentiates this wine from close neighbour Sancerre. The fruit on the palate is particularly round, lush, and supple yet retains good balancing acidity. This concentration persists impressively over the 30 second finish.
This wine is also available in half-bottles.
