Domaine Roger Luquet

Mâconnais, Burgundy

In Sotheby's World Wine Encyclopedia, Tom Stevenson claims the Mâconnais provides... "easily the best-value pure chardonnay wine in the world. The climate and ambience of the region differ from the Côte d'Or, the vineyards benefit from more sun, less rain, and little risk of frost. Most wines from the Mâconnais are vinified in stainless steel or glass lined tanks."

Domaine Roger Luquet
The family Luquet has been growing wine for 5 generations. In 1966, Roger Luquet established his own winery with just 4.5 hectares. Today, working with his son and daughter, he has 24 hectares in the appelation Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint Veran, Macon Villages and Cremant de Bourgogne. Every year they produce 180,000 bottles of which 70% are exported.
Roger Luquet eschews any aging in cask, preferring to keep the Chardonnay for his Macon, Saint Veran, and Pouilly Fuissé vineyards in contact with the lees in stainless steel casks until bottling takes place in the spring following the vintage. Additionally, he ferments only with wild yeast and adds little sulphur dioxide. Luquet's wines are very well balanced, and show a rather stony, mineral character.

Cremant de BourgogneCrémant de Bourgogne NV
Since we introduced this product some years ago we have been told several times that it has been confused with Blanc de Blancs Champagne. Produced from Chardonnay grown in St. Véran, this clean, attractive, yeasty Blanc de Blancs is offered at a remarkable price. It is a truly compelling alternative to many of the sparkling wines in the market.

This wine was awarded in October 2008 the 2009 Coup de Coeur by Hachette Guide (France). The wines considered for this award are tasted only by producers and negociants, and it is one of the highest honours awarded in France.

Pouilly FuissePouilly-Fuissé 2006
This Pouilly-Fuissé is a generous and rich wine, with an emerald-gold colour. The alkaline limestone soils of the Mâconnais favours harmonious development of the Chardonnay bouquet, with a hint of hazelnuts, toasted almonds and exotic fruit. The vineyards, which average 50 years of age, are situated in an amphitheatre which gives them extra warmth and sunlight. This is a full blown, opulent Burgundian Chardonnay. This wine will age well for 6 years. Available in full and half bottles.
