Domaine Leflaive

Puligny-Montrachet, Côte de Beaune

A family property dating back to 1745, now totaling 50 acres on superb sites and producing only white wines. Anne-Claude Leflaive has run the Domaine on her own since the death of her father in 1993. Anne-Claude is an innovative, meticulous, caretaker of the vineyards and has implemented biodynamic viticulture at the Domaine. From 1989 no fertilizers or herbicides have been used and since 1997 the Domaine has become 100% biodynamic. Furthermore, each plot is now regarded as a separate unit. Unfortunately, demand for Domaine Leflaive's vinous treasures far exceeds supply.

Clive Coates, MW declares, "This is indisputably the greatest estate for white wine in the whole world, producing wines that are the utmost in discretion and elegance; profound, long lasting wines full of richly concentrated fruit which for me represent all that is best in white Burgundy."

VinonobilePuligny-Montrachet 1er Cru 2006 "Les Folatieres"
"A deep greenish, golden glow to this substantial wine. Some putty scent and some spring blossom. Very firm on the palate with lots of matiere and grip. You should wait quite a while for this but it's already very lively and already starting to develop a bouquet with a hint of orange peel. Quite powerful for a Leflaive wine."

VinonobilePuligny-Montrachet 1er Cru 2006 "Les Clavoillons"

"Fine-boned and concentrated though very introverted at this stage. Clean and fresh with sandy astringency running through it and lots of lemon refreshment. Mid weight. wait for more development. Drink 2010 - 2014."
17 of 20, Jancis Robinson, Jan 2008

"A superb white Puligny, offering lime and mineral aromas and flavors, with hints of flowers and vanilla pastry. It's lean and well-toned, with persistence and a crisp, toast- and mineral-tinged finish. Drink now through 2018."
93 points and Highly Recommended, Wine Spectator, June 2008

" This wine hums with energy, with the tight, floral perfume of Chardonnay grown in Puligny, a focus on lime and orange blossoms, an astonishing integration of oak and mineral tension with the fruit. It feels bouyant, a rich beauty that keeps improving over the course of several days. Along with the freshness of the fruit, there's a sense of cool limestone radiating the warmth of the sun."
