Château Fortia

Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhône

Château Fortia holds an important place in the history of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It was here that Baron Le Roy de Boiseaumarie was instrumental in the establishment of the Appellation Contrôlée system. Since Bruno Le Roy took over in 1994 and engaged the well know Cornas oenologist Jean-Luc Colombo as winemaker, Château Fortia is back on form. This is one of the few Châteauneuf-du-Papes that contains a high proportion of syrah, usually 40%, allowing these wines a longer than average life.

Château FortiaChâteauneuf-du-Pape 2009 "Cuvée du Baron"
Created in the memory of the Domaine's founder, Baron Le Roy de Boiseaumarie.

"Deep, vivid ruby. High-pitched aromas of red berries and cherry, with notes of garrigue and white pepper adding complexity. Spicy and precise, with aeration bringing up bitter cherry and lavender qualities. The finish is spicy, precise and long and a sexy floral note lingers behind. "
89-91 points, Int'l Wine Cellar, Mar/April 2011
