| Cannonball Wine Company California |
| Cannonball winery grew out of the quest to do one thing and do it well. To produce California Cabernet Sauvignon at an everyday price that tastes like a much more expensive wine. Sourcing fruit from top vineyards in Alexander Valley, Mendocino County and Napa Valley has allowed them to do just that. After three vintages producing only Cabernet Sauvignon, the model was applied to Merlot and Chardonnay - sourcing premium fruit and blending a high-value wine. In 2011, a 2007 Napa Valley Merlot and 2009 Sonoma County Chardonnay were released to the market. The Cannonball label perfectly captures the winemaking philosophy that wine should be fun, enjoyable, and above all else make you smile. Most importantly, these wines offer true quality at an everyday price, a testament to the great blending skills and craftsmanship of co-founder and master winemaker, Dennis Hill. |
Chardonnay 2009The cool, coastal reaches of Sonoma County are perfect for Chardonnay. Foggy, cool mornings give way to sunny, windy afternoons, perfect for developing Chardonnay's bright fruity and minerally characters. This lovely Chardonnay displays lemon, melon and pineapple flavours, with just a hint of vanillin oak. |
Merlot 2007The 2007 Cannonball Napa Valley Merlot is a special wine - the first Merlot released after three vintages of making only Cabernet Sauvignon. The colour is deep garnet with a bright halo of ruby. The aromas reveal slowly and you will find layers of cherries, floral, and vanilla-creme with a hint of red spice and walnut. In the mouth, the entry shows flavours of cherry, pomegranate, dark berries, and toasty flavours. The body is full and rich, threaded with fine textured tannins, outstanding length and bright finish. |
Cabernet Sauvignon 2009The 2009 Cannonball Cabernet Sauvignon presents a lively, dark ruby colour, like burgundy velvet. Aromas of fresh berries, spice, and pepper with a faint background of vanilla oak are very much reflected in the mouth. Full and rich with bright acidity, the berry and spice flavours are boldly presented along with racy, red fruit and vanilla-cherry on a layer of cocoa. The finish is classic Cannonball, smooth, long, delicious. We recommend enjoying it between now and 2014 to really get the most of the big fruit. Really let the wine open up in your glass to experience all the layers and complexity. For those preferring a more mellow style, decant for one hour before serving. In this 2009 vintage, two-thirds of the blend comes from Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys, with the balance from Mendocino County and Napa Valley. |
